The Honest Performance Feedback

Channeling my inner Seth Godin today…

It really is a choice.

Either you can decide to perform the job you have, or you can decide to work someplace else.

Either you believe this is the right company for you, or you can decide it’s another company.

Either you treat you coworkers as partners, or you don’t treat someone else’s employees like crap.

Either you follow our rules, or you follow someone else’s rules.

Either you make a positive contribution to the organization, or you make me make a choice about your future.

Earning the right to work here isn’t hard, it’s just a simple choice that you control. Losing that choice is up to me, though.

  1. I agree we have a choice but, in my opinion, that comment is incomplete and unsophisticated because it does not mention the system within which people work. The system creates an environment and/or set of circumstances which play an enormous role in the decision to stay or go. Good try to make it that simple. It’s not.

  2. Bullshit!

Weak managers and directors make those statements to employees at review time.

Still love ya, and will give you a hug when I see you at SHRM, but no, have to call bullshit on this one.

You’re funny! Weak managers don’t say this, even your strong managers won’t say this. Call B.S. if you want but the strongest leaders I’ve been around have ‘happiness’ discussions with employees. But those are in companies that actually get rid of weak employees, last I checked colleges and universities struggle with the life-time employment concept…

      Can’t wait for my hug!
